Character Development and Evaluation

Evaluation of the Characters.
There are only five character that appear in my short but none of them have any real information shown to the audience about them, not even a name was given to the characters just "Boss" and "Goon". But i can assure you there were much more consideration and serious development that went into making these characters.

The Boss
The Boss, a “classic” 50's gangster, with vintage edge.
Image result for Al caponeWe all know Al Capone, The Cray Twins, and Machine Gun Kelly to be the real-life hidden figures in the shadows with the superior and intimidating personality, which is the representation I will portray in my film of “The Boss”, beneficially using real-time cases for inspiration. Taking inspiration from the stereotypical 1950's gangster villains, but to add variation and substantial originality I will pursue this character with some diverse traits and presentation on-screen features that will differentiate from the typical gangster. Using unique film making, writing, and story-telling skills, I aim to engage the audience with a theatrical range of emotions, project by this character: shocked – at the significant variation from stereotypical gangster villains, and intrigued – by the mystery that lurks within his character and what little is reveal about his specific character.
Through further 1950's inspiration, the instant appearance of the Boss will be almost like a greaser with iconic slicked back hair. Jack Nicholson, the 1960's Joker villain, oozed perfection in his on-screen appearance as every specific detail of his attire was immaculate. Image result for jack nicholson joker  The sense of disturbance from within the character that Jack Nicholson brings to the silver screen through his appearance is phenomenal therefore, I want to duplicate onto The Boss.
When it comes to the characters attire, a white shirt symbolising purity – giving the misconception and deception of the monster within, would contribute to the professionalism and high social status of the character. Therefore, presenting him as the most dominant character in the scene. Also, the colour contrasts between red of the blood and bright white would be a vivid contrast within the violent scene. Furthermore, implying the sinister and mentally disturbed nature of The Boss to the audience creating the main thinking point when the violence is captured within different significant shots.
Shots will be low lit of the Boss so that the character is enveloped in shadows and darkness. The cinematography is used to represent the Boss' personality; dark, mysterious and intimidating to be around..
But the most important feature of the boss and is probably the most noticeable one is that the boss is a woman. Which is a big twist on the idea of a gangster because normally they are not portrayed in a feminine way, which is also a twist on not only the stereotypical look of a gangster boss but also on the 'normal' everyday woman because they are all stereotyped to be caring, gentle and quiet in movies so I wanted to show the boss as a female that is screaming and constantly causing violence and disruption throughout the picture because it shows the opposite of the idea of a stereotypical woman.

ONE AND TWO
Juxtaposing the identity of the Boss to the other two characters, the representation I will be portraying is total opposite of the confident predator, almost like intimated prey. Throughout the linear film, there will be a linked character narrative where the audience will be introducing to surroundings, characters, and plots at the same time as both these characters do. Using this technique, the engaged audience will undoubtedly share the same feelings as the two less dominant characters: such as intensity: creating tension and high pressure to significant scenes with the Boss. The prime set of the pub will be perceived by the audience members as a comfortable habitat for the Boss since the confidence and relaxed nature will be evident through his character. By applying claustrophobic shots to the scene, the characters will be represented as trapped and caged within the presence of the menacing Boss. However, the juxtaposition of shots, with the Boss' shots being open and easy on the eyes, shows the juxtaposition of roles; weak delinquents, enslaved by fear and corruption significantly contrasted with the confident, manipulating monster overflowing with tyrannical power. To put emphasis on the element of fear and terror to the audience, the two characters will be sweating with the lighting intelligently captured each droplet to intensify the scene.
The messy and dirty attire, drenched in blood ad dirt, furthermore implying the contrasts of the Boss with the delinquents, showing the boss' superiority in the movie.
